Early morning,
after a swim and breakfast, we will have a look at
the weather and decide which site to go to.
We are usually in the minibus on our way to the site between 9 and 10 am, depending
on the weather and pilot levels. Most of the time we have a picnic
for lunch and eat in one of our favourite taverns in the evening.
Once a week we try to organised a BBQ in the evening on the hotel's beach.
The weeks are run without any plan, picking up activities and flying sites
depending on the weather and how people feel.
Progression
Depending on your level and feeling during the week, we
can help you increase your level of safety, knowledge
and experience.
It is up to you. Whatever are your interests, we will be pleased to help if
we can.
For instance you can increase your confidence by practicing some S.I.V
or help you turn
tighter in thermal if you are low airtime pilot.
Christophe usually does one or two lectures each week, one about the basics
of thermaling and one about mild S.I.V (e.g. : B. line stall, asymmetric collapse.).
Other benefits
- 6
main flying sites in close proximity, no hours spend
driving around!
- A permanent driver to drive us the hill at any time!
- Locals who how know the place, the weather and the
XC
Safety
Sunday morning after a good night sleep, you will be briefed about our Flying
Centre and especially about safety.
We also do a quick briefing before each flight about the
site, the weather conditions, possibilities of XC etc.
Those briefings are adapted to the level of each pilot.
We are here to give you information with the purpose of
increasing your safety level and your performance, not
give you headaches!
Medical facilities
Greece is now a rich country, their hospitals
are well organized, up to the western standards and their
medical staff speaks English perfectly.
Radios
Radios are mandatory here, simply because
they can save YOUR life or the one of an other pilot, if
someone has an accident (We have radios for rental at
cost price).
They also come handy if bad weather is coming
and that somebody has noticed it early. They are
also great to call an other pilot to join for a XC or to
inform of where you have landed!
Make sure that you know how to change the frequency (bring the manual).
Note that the microphone system with contact on the finger is banned
because of intermittent transmission while flying.
When is the best time to come
is a question that comes regularly.
Where we are it is flyable all the year round but we have decided to be open
only during the BEST 6 months of the year. Mostly because July
and August are really too hot and too strong and December to
February are too stable. When we are opne the flying is
excellent, with the following specificities: June and the
first 2 weeks of septembre are fairly strong and generaly
only experience pilots fly at noon. Days are longers in
May and June and get shorter at the end of October. Sea
temperature is not very warm yet in april for us (But very
good for Uk standarts) but stays warm until November.
How long to come for ?
Regularly, we see how people on longer stays are more
relax.
Last year 75% of our bookings were for 9 or 10 day saty whereas it was 20%
10 years ago.
Every body need around 3 days to get back into flying and get a feel for the
place, with a week you start to get a good feeling just
few days before leaving, with 10 days, you got a week in
front of you!
Even in the best spot in the world you can have 2 non-flying days, on a longer
stay it doesn't matter anymore. People even wish it
sometime!
It give you sometime to go kayaking, visit the ancient theatre or the
small island closeby, it's more like holidays!
Off course
it increase our income, but mostly, it makes pilots more
relax, not so much in a hurry to run for flying each time
a minibus is going up.
It easier for them to say: "Ok, I
am off this morning, see you for the afternoon flight!"
Which is much safer, because you can get really tired from flying all day every
day.
